Who thought years later I would be quoting Shakepeare’s Othello.
Eventhough I am from the US, my tenth grade english teacher hailed from Scotland. It drove me crazy that she graded people on what she thought about their individual ability. It took me forever to understand those Elizbethean Archaic words.
I would complain to my school mates, that just could understand these crazy words. The important aspect here is that I just did not give up.
Long story short I read more and more of this literary genius wrote and gained a great appreciation for the word. I even learned that there are over 100 words that Mr Shakespeare inserted into the english language.
Why is this important you ask?
Sometimes we are not willing to take the time to master a subject. We marvel and get jealous about other people’s success.
We all learn at a different pace but persistance and tenacity are key attributes in moving forward through our intellectual fog. Some just learn faster than others.
I remember that my first year in online marketing seemed full of futility. I just wanted to hurry through everything. You will find if you take some extra time and learn your subject better. Better results do come.
You will also learn that version one is better than version none, because getting perfect results almost never happens. You have to try variation or split tests to see which version is best.
These are the hard won victories that come as we move ahead.
Ah the joys of Shakespeare! In my case, I completely set back my English teacher when I told her that even though we may not have agreed on much together, there was one thing I had to thank her for: my love of everything Skakespeare!
Embracing Change, New beginnings mean change, and, sometimes, that can be disorienting!
I always struggled reading Shakespeare at school until we had a school outing to watch Romeo and Juliet at the cinema. I appreciated it much more seeing it on the big screen. I can’t say I ever mastered Shakespeare but I appreciate the analogy about mastering what we do in our business. Food for thought. “To blog, or not to blog. That is the question!”
Hi Scott,
I am not really familiar with Shakespeare, never read it, and wasn’t part of school. I do however, agree that we need to push through and learn all that we can about our business, and become one of those successful people that we would otherwise be jealous about! 🙂
